Digital nomads (international teleworkers)

Non-EU foreigners can apply for a residency through international teleworking to carry out a work or professional activity remotely for companies located outside the national territory, through the exclusive use of computer, telematics and telecommunications means and systems.

In the case of carrying out a work activity, the holder of the international teleworking authorization may only work for companies located outside the national territory.

In the case of exercising a professional activity, the holder of the international teleworking authorization will be allowed to work for a company located in Spain, as long as the percentage of said work does not exceed 20% of the total their professional activity.

Requirements

  • Accreditation of being graduates or postgraduates of prestigious universities, professional training and business schools of recognized prestige or with a minimum professional experience of three years.
  • existence of real and continued activity on the part of the company with which the applicant contracts.
  • Documentation proving that the employment or professional relationship can be carried out remotely.
  • Proof that the employment or professional relationship between the applicant and the worker has existed for at least three months, as well as documents that prove the terms and conditions of the remote activity.

Types of permits and duration

Visa: when the applicant is outside of Spain, he will obtain a permit to, if he wishes, reside and work throughout the national territory. The duration of the permit is 1 year, unless the work period is shorter, in which case the visa will have the same duration.

After the year, you must apply for a residence permit

Residence authorization: when the applicant is legally in Spain, he will obtain a 3-year permit to, if he wishes, reside and work throughout the national territory.
